Ranong: The mountains are calling...

As I flew into Ranong, I was amazed at the beauty of it as I looked out the airplane window! Just unbelievably beautiful! It was a small airport so it was easy to come out and find the Mejudhons waiting for me. As we drove into town, I was still amazed by the sight of all of the mountains surrounding me! We stopped at Bald Mountain where they meet daily for morning devotion and prayers and they introduced me to the stray dog and her three puppies they visit and feed there. It was so sweet. She was so excited to see them. I enjoyed chatting with the Mejudhons as they drove me to their home for lunch. Unfortunately,  as we waited to get in we smelled something burning. That smell was actually our lunch burning. The gas didn't turn all the way off when they left to come get me so it left enough fire to burn lunch. Sad day. We loaded back up and had lunch out. I had fried rice with egg and bacon which was delicious! Did you know that putting lime on your fried rice is the best?! That's something I learned my first week in Thailand. "It's the Thai way" apparently and I find it tastes so much better! After lunch, they brought me to the place I'd be staying at all week to get settled and rested. I unpacked and settled in and then walked to the cafeteria to order some dinner. They had an interesting menu. Some of their dishes did not translate to English very well! If the lady hadn't been standing there waiting, I would have snapped a picture!

Tuesday morning came after a great night's sleep! Can you believe that after two whole weeks, I'm still waking up between 5:30 and 6 am ready to start my day?! That just blows my mind! Actually still true after three weeks! It kills me to get up that early back home! Tuesday had an 8:30 class so Nantachai and Ubolwan picked me up at 8. That meant I needed to be up, ready, and have eaten breakfast at the cafeteria before they arrived. Good thing I've been so good about getting up early anyway! It was a rainy day. I learned that day that you always carry an umbrella with you regardless of what the weather is like. The bottom can fall out at any moment without notice. Didn't learn by experience thankfully. Nantachai prepared me for that, always making sure I had one with me. Once we arrived at the school they each went to different classes. I started with Nantachai and his class answering questions and comparing difference between American and Thai culture. After that, I joined Ubolwan for the last half of her class. I got to sing and dance with the kids and they were so joyful! Ubolwan does a fantastic job teaching and keeping the children interested! I even got to witness her phenomenal story telling skills! I hope one day I can tell stories even half as well as she does! She is amazing! After class was over we left and headed out for an early lunch of roti.  Oh my goodness. So goooooood. Especially with sweetened condensed milk drizzled over it and sugar sprinkled on top! That was my favorite way to have it! Of course, it tasted great plain and with curry, too! They also ordered some fried chicken which was amazing too! Oh how I'd like to have some more of both right now!!! We had the leftovers bagged up and headed over to Bald Mountain for devotionals and prayers. After spending some time in discussion, the dogs showed up without their normal signal of two honks! They must have recognized the scent or something because they were definitely looking for us! They were excited to get the leftovers and ate it up. They dropped me back off to rest for a few hours before the next English session started. This one was at their house after school hours.  The children were great and I enjoyed helping again. When that class ended, we ate dinner together. A delicious home cooked dinner. We ate, we chatted, and then left for a dessert run. Each thing Nantachai checked for was closed or not available, but he kept trying until he brought me some type of Thai dessert crisp with coconut and some other sweet substance in it. It was yummy. At this point it was getting late so they dropped me off for the night. I didn't quite sleep as well that night which was different from the majority of other nights, but I chalked it up to getting used to another bed, sounds, and such.

Hot springs coming soon.
